At the conclusion of the III Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, celebrated in 2014 to treat the topic, The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization, Pope Francis decided to make public theRelatio Synodi, the document which concluded the synod’s work. At the same time, the Holy Father indicated that this document would be the Lineamenta for the XIV Ordinary General Assembly to take place from 4 to 25 October 2015 to treat the topic, The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World.

The Relatio Synodi, which is sent as the Lineamenta, concludes in the following words: “These proposed reflections, the fruit of the synodal work that took place in great freedom and with a spirit of reciprocal listening, are intended to raise questions and indicate points of view that will later be developed and clarified through reflection in the local Churches in the intervening year leading to the XIV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops” (Relatio Synodi, n. 62)

Pope Francis at his weekly General Audience in St Peter's Square on Wednesday opened a new Chapter, a weekly catechesis focusing on the Family.

He began this new cycle by recalling the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family which took place in October.

The Holy Father told the thousands of faithful present that he wanted to share with them what took place and what the Synod has produced.

He continued saying, that during this time there was much media attention on the work being done at the Synod and for that the Pope expressed his thanks. But, Pope Francis added, often the vision of the media was a bit 'in the style of sports or political coverage,: “they often spoke of two teams, pro and con, conservatives and liberals, and so on.”

Die KirchenVolksBewegung Wir sind Kirche fordert den „Ständigen Rat“ der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz auf, der am 24./25. November 2014 in Würzburg tagt,jetzt einen „Synoden-Fahrplan“ vorzulegen, wie auf den verschiedenen Ebenen der Bistümer, Pfarreien und Verbände in Deutschland konkrete Ergebnisse für die Familien-Synode im Oktober 2015 erarbeitet werden sollen.Kardinal Reinhard Marx hatte am Schlusstag der ersten Synodenperiode in Rom zugesagt, dass dies ohne Denk- und Sprechverbote erfolgen solle. 

Vor genau einem Monat, am 19. Oktober 2014, waren die Bischöfe von Papst Franziskus aufgefordert worden, „neue Wege“ in Theorie und Praxis zu finden. Dieser synodale Prozess, so Wir sind Kirche, muss so offen und angstfrei wie in Rom jetzt auch in Deutschland mit TheologInnen und Kirchenvolk weitergeführt werden. 

In einem Brief an jeden einzelnen der 27 deutschen Diözesanbischöfe sowie an den Vorsitzenden der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz, Kardinal Reinhard Marx, hat dieKirchenVolksBewegung ausdrücklich ihre Bereitschaft zur unmittelbaren Zusammenarbeit erklärt. Wir sind Kirche wird aber auch eigene Initiativen ergreifen. 

Wir sind Kirche wendet sich auch an alle katholischen Verbände, Räte, Akademien, theologischen Fakultäten und sonstige Bildungseinrichtungen mit dem Appell, den Kairos der Stunde zu nutzen und von sich aus Initiativen zu ergreifen, die Pastoral und Lehre von Ehe, Familie und Sexualität mit Erfolg weiter zu entwickeln.

In diesem Zusammenhang begrüßt und unterstützt Wir sind Kirche auch den Aufruf von Bund Neudeutschland (Gemeinschaft Katholischer Männer und Frauen) für ein „Bündnis für eine Synode“ der deutschen Bistümer, die dem „Gesprächsprozess 2010-2015 der deutschen Bischöfe“ folgen soll. Dabei fordert Wir sind Kirche eine gleichberechtigte Beteiligung der Laien an den Entscheidungen nach dem Vorbild der „Würzburger Synode“, der „Gemeinsamen Synode der Deutschen Bistümer“, die 1971-75 in Würzburg stattfand.
